The park, established in the year 1981, is an unblemished eco-system of the highlands.

The Highlands which is the home to the Satpura ranges as well as forest was one of the last places to be discovered during the British Raj, apparently in the 1860s. However, the rapid deforestation of Teak at the time led to the formation and formal declaration of the world’s first sanctuary, the Bori sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh. The Satpura National Park is a vast region spread in an area of 524 km and has the Bori and the Pachmarhi sanctuary lying in its close proximity.
